My experience with Northside Plastic Surgery was very pleasant and successful with the results I had hoped for. The office was serenely beautiful, clean and quiet. I never had to wait to be seen and the entire staff was always friendly, helpful and pleasant. - P. C.

Where can I undergo ear pinning surgery in Atlanta?

Dr. Mike Majmundar, double board certified facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon, performs ear shaping for patients in Atlanta, Sandy Springs, Alpharetta, and the surrounding communities in Georgia.

Children subject to cruel nicknames such as “Dumbo” or “Mickey Mouse” are most likely candidates for otoplasty, but this surgery can be performed at any age once the ears have reached full size (four to five years of age).

When it comes to otoplasty, conventional wisdom is the earlier the better. While many patients have this procedure done at an early age to avoid ridicule from peers, it is also becoming popular among adults.

Benefits of otoplasty include…

  • Increased self-confidence in one’s image
  • Can correct ear deformities and injuries
  • Can help correct asymmetrical ears
  • Helps to achieve more balance and harmony among the features
  • Helps reduce excess ear cartilage
  • Long-lasting results
  • Natural-looking outcome

Who is a good candidate for otoplasty?

Otoplasty will not alter your ability to hear. What is important for successful otoplasty is that the ears be in proportion to the size and shape of the face and head. With all facial plastic surgery, a positive attitude toward the surgery is important. It is especially critical when the patient is an adolescent or adult.

Timing is always an important consideration. Having the procedure done at a young age is highly desirable in two respects: the cartilage is extremely pliable, thereby permitting greater ease of shaping; and secondly, the child will experience psychological benefits from the cosmetic improvement. However, having this procedure performed as an adult is very common. We see more adults for this condition than we do children.

How can I make the best decision regarding my ear surgery?

During your consultation, Dr. Majmundar will examine the structure of the ears and discuss possibilities for correction. Even if only one ear needs to be “pinned back,” surgery will probably be recommended on both to achieve the most natural, symmetrical appearance.

Following a thorough medical history review, Dr. Majmundar will explain the kind of anesthesia required. Typically, he will suggest general anesthesia for young patients, and a local anesthetic combined with a sedation for adults.

What can I expect from my recovery?

Soft dressings applied to the ears will remain in place for 24 hours. You will be asked to wear a headband at night for 14 days to allow the ears to properly heal. Most patients experience some mild discomfort.

  • Surgery: In-office or outpatient
  • Anesthesia: General or IV sedation
  • Procedure length: 1 1/2 hours (for both sides)
  • Recovery: On average, 7 days

What if I have special concerns for my surgery?

We consult with hundreds of men and women in Atlanta, Sandy Springs, Alpharetta, and the surrounding communities in Georgia every month regarding their appearance, and the most common concern or fear is ‘looking weird’ after surgery. At Northside Plastic Surgery, we specialize in surgical and nonsurgical procedures that achieve youthful and natural results. Our signature procedures, such as our natural facelift, natural brow lift, or no scar rhinoplasty, are designed to result in a balanced, healthy, and natural contour.

What is the cost for an otoplasty?

During your confidential consultation, our team will go over the costs for your procedure in detail. These fees will vary depending on the complexity of your treatment, the choice of anesthesia, and on whether you undergo any additional treatments in tandem, such as a rhinoplasty or chin augmentation. Our office will provide you with a wide array of financing options.

Why choose Dr. Majmundar for your ear surgery?

Dr. Majmundar is a highly approachable and compassionate surgeon who loves to work with patients of all ages. His younger clients find him to be very friendly and are quickly set at ease in his presence. Dr. Majmundar gives back to his community, training other surgeons for Suneva and Galderma.

He has also served as a clinical instructor in the Division of Plastic Surgery at the University of New Mexico. Now a longstanding member of the American Association of Facial and Reconstructive Surgery and the American Board of Facial Plastic Surgery, Dr. Majmundar graduated in the top 10% of his class at the Medical College of Georgia.

Re-Opening May 4th! Practice UpdateView Update Virtual Consultation

Re-Opening May 4th Update:

As a valued member of the Northside Plastic Surgery family, I want to personally update you on steps our practice has taken to protect you and your health in light of the COVID-19 situation.

As it has always been, the safety and health of our patients and team members remains our highest priority. As your physician, I want to thank you for your support and the confidence you have in our practice. In response to the coronavirus, we have taken the basic CDC recommendations and have added the following extra measures to protect our patients:

  1. We are waiving our $150 fee for Virtual Consultations for new and established patients.
  2. We ask all patients to stay in their car and call us upon arrival. Once on-site, your temperature will be taken along with a screening questionnaire, you will be provided hand sanitizer, and then escorted directly to an exam room or empty reception area. We ask all patients to wear a surgical mask or face covering to their appointment. As a high-end practice, we are taking advantage of our large size and multiple VIP waiting areas to maximize social distancing.
  3. We are performing regular and careful screening of patients with a bias for suspicion that a patient might have the coronavirus.
  4. All staff are screened daily with a temperature check and symptom survey. All staff are required to wear a surgical mask, gloves, and perform frequent hand washing.
  5. We take great pride in maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and hygiene. We have increased the frequency of cleaning our public areas hourly (including lobbies, furniture, elevators, door handles, exam chairs, public bathrooms, etc.) and have continued the use of hospital-grade disinfectant. All exam rooms and highly touched surfaces are sanitized in between patients.
  6. Because of the increased sanitizing requirements, we have reduced the number of patients that will be seen every hour and spacing out appointments.
  7. Since we have our own fully accredited on-site surgery center, we do not have actively infected patients using our operating rooms such as in hospitals. This provides a great security blanket for our patients. We are currently performing at full capacity and completely prepared to perform all scheduled surgeries and procedures and are taking all necessary precautions to ensure your safety and well-being.
  8. We are postponing all advanced training sessions for visiting physicians and providers until June.
  9. We ask that all patients with upper respiratory symptoms such as cough, fever, shortness of breath to please reschedule your appointments and call your family doctor.
  10. For more, you can always find up-to-date and accurate information on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website.

Thank you for being a loyal patient. We will remain attentive to this situation and keep you updated on any changes with the practice. We are privileged to serve you and look forward to seeing you soon.
