My experience with Northside Plastic Surgery was very pleasant and successful with the results I had hoped for. The office was serenely beautiful, clean and quiet. I never had to wait to be seen and the entire staff was always friendly, helpful and pleasant. - P. C.
Where can I undergo ear pinning surgery in Atlanta?
Dr. Mike Majmundar, double board certified facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon, performs ear shaping for patients in Atlanta, Sandy Springs, Alpharetta, and the surrounding communities in Georgia.
Children subject to cruel nicknames such as “Dumbo” or “Mickey Mouse” are most likely candidates for otoplasty, but this surgery can be performed at any age once the ears have reached full size (four to five years of age).
When it comes to otoplasty, conventional wisdom is the earlier the better. While many patients have this procedure done at an early age to avoid ridicule from peers, it is also becoming popular among adults.
Benefits of otoplasty include…
- Increased self-confidence in one’s image
- Can correct ear deformities and injuries
- Can help correct asymmetrical ears
- Helps to achieve more balance and harmony among the features
- Helps reduce excess ear cartilage
- Long-lasting results
- Natural-looking outcome
Who is a good candidate for otoplasty?
Otoplasty will not alter your ability to hear. What is important for successful otoplasty is that the ears be in proportion to the size and shape of the face and head. With all facial plastic surgery, a positive attitude toward the surgery is important. It is especially critical when the patient is an adolescent or adult.
Timing is always an important consideration. Having the procedure done at a young age is highly desirable in two respects: the cartilage is extremely pliable, thereby permitting greater ease of shaping; and secondly, the child will experience psychological benefits from the cosmetic improvement. However, having this procedure performed as an adult is very common. We see more adults for this condition than we do children.
How can I make the best decision regarding my ear surgery?
During your consultation, Dr. Majmundar will examine the structure of the ears and discuss possibilities for correction. Even if only one ear needs to be “pinned back,” surgery will probably be recommended on both to achieve the most natural, symmetrical appearance.
Following a thorough medical history review, Dr. Majmundar will explain the kind of anesthesia required. Typically, he will suggest general anesthesia for young patients, and a local anesthetic combined with a sedation for adults.
What can I expect from my recovery?
Soft dressings applied to the ears will remain in place for 24 hours. You will be asked to wear a headband at night for 14 days to allow the ears to properly heal. Most patients experience some mild discomfort.
- Surgery: In-office or outpatient
- Anesthesia: General or IV sedation
- Procedure length: 1 1/2 hours (for both sides)
- Recovery: On average, 7 days

What is the cost for an otoplasty?
During your confidential consultation, our team will go over the costs for your procedure in detail. These fees will vary depending on the complexity of your treatment, the choice of anesthesia, and on whether you undergo any additional treatments in tandem, such as a rhinoplasty or chin augmentation. Our office will provide you with a wide array of financing options.
