Abdominal Etching

Abdominal etching, also known as “six-pack liposculpture” is a form of contouring liposuction that targets small pockets of fat to sculpt the abdomen. Abdominal etching is used to help you achieve a chiseled and defined waistline, resulting in those hard-to-achieve “washboard abs.”

What is abdominal etching?

The best candidates for abdominal etching in Atlanta are already in good shape and should not have more than 18% body fat. This could mean you have already undergone regular liposuction or other cosmetic surgeries and are ready for the final step to your ideal image. It could also mean that you have tried other methods of achieving a sculpted abdomen with diet and exercise could not achieve washboard abs. Either way, the best way to determine if you are a good candidate for abdominal etching is to schedule a consultation with Northside Plastic Surgery.

What are the benefits of abdominal etching?

Abdominal etching has a multitude of benefits that can help your muscle definition dreams come true:

  • Sculpted waistline
  • Chiseled “six-pack” for extreme definition
  • Hip lines

Am I a good candidate for abdominal etching in Atlanta?

Abdominal etching is a procedure that can help you achieve a taut, sculpted appearance you have strived for but were unable to achieve with exercise. Abdominal etching differs from liposuction in that it removes the fat surrounding muscle groups, rather than achieving an overall flatter stomach.

If necessary, liposuction will be used to remove excess fat. Your skin will then be draped over the new contours and excess skin will be removed. After your arm lift, your incisions will be loosely wrapped in elastic bandages to minimize swelling. More than likely, you will be required to wear a compressive sleeve or bandage for the first few weeks following surgery.

Why is Northside Plastic Surgery the right choice for abdominal etching?

Northside Plastic Surgery the premier location for abdominal etching in the Atlanta area. Both of our board-certified plastic surgeons, Dr. Majmundar and Dr. Klein are known throughout the Atlanta and Alpharetta areas as top doctors in the field of plastic surgery.

With multiple Top Doctor awards by Atlanta Magazine as well as a National Top Doctor in U.S. News and World Report, along with several decades of combined experience, your procedure will be in the hands of very accomplished, talented professionals when your treatment is performed at Northside Plastic Surgery.

What can I expect from abdominal etching?

Abdominal etching is a quick procedure and performed while you are under “twilight” anesthesia or I.V. sedation in the office, with minimal downtime. Before your procedure, your doctor will mark the areas of the abs to sculpt with the procedure. During the procedure a small cannula is inserted into tiny incisions either in the belly button or ab creases to gently remove the pockets of fat and sculpt the areas between the abdominal muscles via a suctioning device.

After the procedure, you will experience some swelling, bruising, and pain which can be easily managed with medication, which is typically only needed for a day or two. We will fit you with a compression garment that will need to be worn for three to six weeks after your procedure. We will provide you with detailed aftercare instructions, but you can expect to be able to shower 48 hours after surgery and resume normal activities between one to three weeks after your abdominal etching procedure.

Abdominal etching FAQs

How quickly will I see results from my abdominal etching procedure?

While you will see changes earlier, the full results of your Alpharetta abdominal etching procedure will be visible around six months after surgery.

Will I be able to work out after my abdominal etching procedure?

Immediately after surgery, your doctor will advise you on how long you will need to wait before returning to the gym. You will certainly need to abstain from lifting anything over 10 lbs. for at least one to three weeks. Light stretching may be allowed, but we will advise you how to ensure your recovery progresses smoothly.

Is abdominal etching permanent?

Abdominal etching will leave you with long-lasting results unless you gain an excessive amount of weight.

Re-Opening May 4th! Practice Update View Update Virtual Consultation

Re-Opening May 4th Update:

As a valued member of the Northside Plastic Surgery family, I want to personally update you on steps our practice has taken to protect you and your health in light of the COVID-19 situation.

As it has always been, the safety and health of our patients and team members remains our highest priority. As your physician, I want to thank you for your support and the confidence you have in our practice. In response to the coronavirus, we have taken the basic CDC recommendations and have added the following extra measures to protect our patients:

  1. We are waiving our $150 fee for Virtual Consultations for new and established patients.
  2. We ask all patients to stay in their car and call us upon arrival. Once on-site, your temperature will be taken along with a screening questionnaire, you will be provided hand sanitizer, and then escorted directly to an exam room or empty reception area. We ask all patients to wear a surgical mask or face covering to their appointment. As a high-end practice, we are taking advantage of our large size and multiple VIP waiting areas to maximize social distancing.
  3. We are performing regular and careful screening of patients with a bias for suspicion that a patient might have the coronavirus.
  4. All staff are screened daily with a temperature check and symptom survey. All staff are required to wear a surgical mask, gloves, and perform frequent hand washing.
  5. We take great pride in maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and hygiene. We have increased the frequency of cleaning our public areas hourly (including lobbies, furniture, elevators, door handles, exam chairs, public bathrooms, etc.) and have continued the use of hospital-grade disinfectant. All exam rooms and highly touched surfaces are sanitized in between patients.
  6. Because of the increased sanitizing requirements, we have reduced the number of patients that will be seen every hour and spacing out appointments.
  7. Since we have our own fully accredited on-site surgery center, we do not have actively infected patients using our operating rooms such as in hospitals. This provides a great security blanket for our patients. We are currently performing at full capacity and completely prepared to perform all scheduled surgeries and procedures and are taking all necessary precautions to ensure your safety and well-being.
  8. We are postponing all advanced training sessions for visiting physicians and providers until June.
  9. We ask that all patients with upper respiratory symptoms such as cough, fever, shortness of breath to please reschedule your appointments and call your family doctor.
  10. For more, you can always find up-to-date and accurate information on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website.

Thank you for being a loyal patient. We will remain attentive to this situation and keep you updated on any changes with the practice. We are privileged to serve you and look forward to seeing you soon.
