Fractionated CO2 Atlanta
Fractionated or “pixilated” carbon dioxide (CO2) lasers are one of the latest advances in non-surgical skin rejuvenation treatments. Fractionated CO2 lasers excel at treating deeper wrinkles, more severe textural changes from sun damage, wrinkles, blotchiness, acne scars, and surgical or traumatic scars. It can be used on the delicate eyelid skin and around the mouth. It is also a very effective treatment for sun damage and precancerous growths.
This in-office procedure stimulates the body’s natural healing process, enhances collagen production and tightens skin. It can also be used in the operating room as the perfect enhancing procedure for face lifts, eyelid or brow lifts, or lip rejuvenation.
When will I see results?
In general, the deeper the treatment, the better the result the patient can expect. But some patients prefer to have two or three treatments to minimize their downtime to 5-7 days per treatment.
You will definitely see some immediate results with improvement in fine lines, pigmentation, and smoother texture but you won’t see the full skin tightening effect for 3-6 months. After your skin heals, which may take up to 3-10 days, there will be a period of 2 weeks after which your skin might be slightly pink. During this period, your skin will feel smoother and looks less blotchy. As the color returns to normal, you will see fewer lines, fewer brown spots, more glow, and smoother skin.
How many treatments will I need?
The number depends on the extent of your sun damage, scarring or wrinkles, and on how much downtime you can accept. If you can tolerate 5-7 days of downtime, you would generally need only 1 – 2 fractional CO2 treatments. However, the overwhelming majority of patients are happy with just a single treatment.
How long do the effects of a fractional CO2 resurfacing laser last?
That depends on how well you protect your skin from the sun and other factors that cause aging like your general health, history of sun tanning, smoking, genetics, etc. If you apply sunscreen, take care of your skin at home, and wear brimmed hats and sunglasses, you can maintain the good effects of your CO2 laser treatment for several years.
