More and more, men are turning to plastic surgery and non-invasive cosmetic
\nprocedures to enhance their appearance, to bolster their self-esteem and
\nincrease their viability in job searches. According to the American
\nSociety for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery<\/a>, there were over 750,000 cosmetic
\nprocedures performed on men in the U.S. last year alone, representing around 8%
\nof all procedures.<\/p>\n

Why are men seeking out these procedures? According to Dr. Laurence T.
\nGlickman of the Long Island Plastic Surgical
\nGroup<\/a>, \u201cIt\u2019s really for them to feel better about themselves and look as
\ngood as they feel. Lots of male patients are physically very fit, they\u2019re going
\nto the gym, they\u2019re eating better diets, they\u2019re staying out of the sun and yet
\nthey don\u2019t look like they feel.\u201d<\/p>\n

One of the LIPSG\u2019s patients, David (last name withheld by request), lost 180
\npounds but was left with folds of skin around his abdomen. After having these
\nremoved, he said, \u201cOne would never know that I had a weight situation. It
\nsignificantly changed my life.\u201d He also said, \u201cIf you show people that you have
\nwhat it takes to not only improve your skills but your appearance as well I
\nthink that you\u2019re consciously or unconsciously perceived as a better [job]
\ncandidate.\u201d<\/p>\n
