Restylane Silk FDA approved for Lip Enhancement
Our practice is one of a handful of practices selected to introduce Restylane Silk to America. The FDA approved Restylane Silk for use in lip lines and for subtle lip augmentation 3 months ago and we’ve had the pleasure of using it for the last month. It will be available to most other physicians this week. Restylane Silk, also known as Restylane Fine Lines in Canada, has finally made it’s way to the U.S. after being available in Canada for over 10 years.
Restylane Silk is perfect for men and women who have been afraid of having large lips after an injection. So many people hesitate to have their lips worked on because of the fear of the duck lip; that’s where Restylane Silk succeeds. Restylane Silk fills the niche for a nonsurgical procedure that provides individuals with a real but subtle lip augmentation that improves volume and lip lines. Because of the subtle nature of the augmentation, many surgeons, including myself, are referring to it as a lip enhancer instead.
Restylane Silk is a hyaluronic acid much like 90% of the other fillers on the market. Unlike other fillers in the lips, Restylane silk seems to last at least 6 months in the lips instead of 4-6 months like most other fillers. It is extremely easy to blend and mold which makes it ideal for use in the lips. It has also worked well in scars and wrinkles on the face in our practice. Though it can be used around the eyes, our preference is still to use Belotero or Restylane Lyft because of the softer look these provide.
To minimize bruising and swelling with Restylane Silk, we use a blunt cannula for injection into the lips. This reduces the likelihood of significant bruising and swelling by greater than 90%. It has been a very popular treatment for lips and patients are universally happy.
