Plastic Surgery for Men in Atlanta
Plastic surgery for men has been increasing exponentially over the last 20 years but according to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, plastic surgery for me is up 43% in the last 5 years. Plastic surgery isn’t just for women anymore, though 80% of plastic surgery procedures are still performed on women. That number was closer to 90% just 5 years ago; men are not sitting on the sidelines anymore.
“Men want to look youthful, healthy, fit, and energetic,” states Atlanta Plastic Surgeon Dr. Mike Majmundar. “Whether they are body builders, male models, healthy dads, or a powerful CEO, men want to look on the outside the way they feel on the inside.”
“Plastic surgery for men is different than it is for women,” explains Dr. Majmundar who’s practice has seen a 50% increase in male plastic surgery over the last 4 years, “Men want definitive procedures and don’t want to keep coming and going out of a plastic surgeon’s office. In my practice, I like for men to maintain the ‘Look of Sophistication’ which means we leave behind some of the lines and wrinkles and stress a natural looking lift for every male patient. Some wrinkles are good because they make men look trustworthy and experienced, not to mention natural.”
The most popular facial procedures for men include blepharoplasty, rhinoplasty, and facelifts with special attention to the neck. Heavy upper eyelids, puffy lower eyelids, a large nose, and a heavy neck are the most common complaints. “When you look up, your eyelids look better because your eyebrows go up with your eyes. However, most men are taller than their female counterparts, so when they look at someone at eye level or lower, their eyelids and brows look heavier naturally and this worsens as men age. Additionally, since most people look at your eyes when talking to you, it’s no wonder that eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty is so commonly requested by men,” exclaims Dr. Majmundar. Dr. Mike Majmundar, a board certified facial plastic surgeon, has started his own facelift website separate from his practice website because of the frequency of facelift procedures he performs. “Many men still wear dress shirts to work or collared shirts, and a heavy neck can make a form-fitting torso look out of place. Necklifts are a big component of facelift surgery for men. Sometimes, if we intervene earlier, we can perform the necklift without the facelift portion”.
