Juvederm Voluma XC: All you want to know
Juvederm Voluma XC: Dr. Mike Majmundar will be one of the first in Atlanta to offer Voluma in Dec 2013
The long awaited Juvederm Voluma was finally FDA approved on October 23rd, 2013. It will be the first filler to be approved for volume enhancement of the cheeks and the first filler that claims to last for 2 years. We are excited to announce that we will be one of 10 practices in Atlanta that will introduce this filler to the public the first week in December 2013.
Voluma is a hyaluronic acid much like it’s sibling Juvederm Ultra and Ultra Plus but it lasts 2 years. It is injected similarly to Juvederm into the skin. We use a blunt cannula, unlike most plastic surgery practices, to minimize the risk of bruising and swelling. This also allows for only one needle stick on either side of the face in most cases reducing the pain from needle sticks (who doesn’t like that!).
Sculptra is a volumizer much like Voluma but creates volume by stimulating collagen to create the volume. Voluma, on the other hand, also lasts 2 years and the result is instantaneous unlike Sculptra that requires a 3 month wait period to see the gradual but natural improvement. Sculptra will still be a player for those who need large amounts of volume and want a natural, gradual alternative. Sculptra seems to also change the overlying skin by smoothing it and improving acne scars so this will still be a consideration for patients.
Because Voluma is a hyaluronic acid, patients will be naturally attracted to it as it can be easily reversed unlike Sculptra and Radiesse. Unlike Voluma, Radiesse will still remain the cornerstone for nonsurgical lifts in patients with significant laxity or volume loss.
Either way, we are excited to introduce this product to Atlanta next month. Stay tuned for more!
