Guatemala Mission Trip: March 4-11, 2018
Dr. Mike Majmundar and his team with Second Chance Surgeries, the 501(c)3 charitable foundation created by Dr. Majmundar, traveled to Guatemala March 4th through March 11, 2018, to provide no-cost surgeries to those in need. It was an honor for Second Chance Surgeries to join forces with Medical Outreach of America, a charitable organization also from Atlanta, on this endeavor.
The team with Second Chance Surgeries performed 22 free surgeries in total in 4 and a half days, and the group as a whole performed 43 which included orthopedics cases and general surgery cases. “We worked from 7am to 7pm most days and the other days we were there until 8-9pm.”, said Dr. Majmundar. He also stated that, “it was a very rewarding trip made possible by all of the donations we received from everyone in Atlanta. All of the surgeries were paid for by the generous donations.” In Guatemala, the hospital nurses, techs, and doctors were all very cooperative and willing to help us treat the people they could not. We helped people breathe better, see better, removed skin cancers, and reconstructed noses, lips, and eyelids.”
Dr. Majmundar said that “this is the first time we didn’t get any cleft cases but you never know what the needs will be until you arrive.” No matter what the need, it is such a privilege to be able to give “second chances”.
