Chin Reduction Atlanta
Dr. Mike Majmundar, double board certified facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon, performs chin reduction for the residents of Atlanta, Sandy Springs and the surrounding communities in Georgia.
Your chin plays a key role in balancing your facial features. Having a chin that is too large for your face makes your nose and other areas appear too small. Chin reduction reduces and re-shapes your chin, improving the overall proportions of your face. Your other facial features and contours become more prominent, giving you a more attractive appearance.
Is a Chin Reduction Right for You?
Your chin continues to develop until you are 20 years old. You should wait until that age to before considering chin reduction. If you are unhappy with your chin size or shape, or your facial profile, chin reduction may be the right procedure for you.
Making the Decision for Chin Reduction
Because your chin plays such a critical role in balancing your face, you should choose a qualified facial plastic surgeon for your chin reduction. Dr. Majmundar is double board certified in otolaryngology – head neck surgery, as well as facial plastic and reconstructive surgery. His experience and education means that he provides you with the highest quality care. During your consultation appointment, Dr. Majmundar examines your chin and face to determine the best treatment plan. He also discusses the outcomes of the procedure so that you have realistic expectations of your chin reduction. We perform all of our surgeries in accredited outpatient surgery centers, and we only use board certified MD anesthesiologists for your safety.
Understanding the Surgery
The location of the incision for your chin reduction depends on the extent of your chin reduction. In most cases, the incision is made inside your mouth near your lower lip, or under your chin. The bone from the tip of your chin is removed, and the remaining bone is re-shaped and contoured. The bone tip is replaced and held in place with wires or plates, and the incision is closed with sutures.
What to Expect After the Surgery
After your surgery, Dr. Majmundar places a dressing over your chin. You wear the dressing for up to three days. Recovery from chin reduction involves the healing of your chin bone. You may experience tenderness, and chewing your food or talking may cause some discomfort. You may also have swelling for up to three months. As you heal, you may feel a tightening sensation in your chin area. This is a normal part of the healing process and should resolve within one week. You should avoid strenuous activities for three weeks, but you can resume your normal, lighter activities ten days after your chin reduction. The risks of chin reduction include nerve damage, which is why you should trust your chin reduction to the experience and expertise of Dr. Majmundar.
