Meet the Doctor
Dr. Mike Majmundar’s practice is unique in that it focuses exclusively on plastic surgery of the face, head and neck. As a double board certified facial plastic surgeon, his complete approach to facial aesthetics promotes healthy skin, youthful contours, and natural results, without appearing “done” or artificial.
Dermaplaning, similar to microdermabrasion, is an excellent and safe procedure for exfoliating the epidermis and ridding the skin of dead skin cells and fine vellus hair (peach fuzz). Light, feathering strokes over the surface of the facial skin mechanically removes the top layer of dead skin cells, debris, and fine hair, smoothing the skin for a silky feel.
Removing this layer of dead skin allows products, such as superficial peels and even Retin-A, to penetrate more readily into the deeper layers. This allows the products to be more effective and increases the likelihood of a good result. It is also used to prepare the skin for superficial chemical peels or before a deep cleansing facial.
Dermaplaning is most often used on patients with rough, dry skin, superficial hyperpigmentation, mild acne scarring, fine vellus hair, or fine lines and wrinkles. The treatment results in a more refined, smooth, “glowing” appearance. For better results, combining this with a glycolic or lactic peel will maximize results (Advanced Dermaplaning, or MicroPeel).
For individuals who want to ‘jump-start’ their clinical skin care regimen to maximize their results in the shortest period of time, dermaplaning will be recommended prior to starting a regimen or before a peel.
